Belt drives with elastic multiple Vribbed belts do not have a belt tensioner. For this reason, car mechanics are forced, in most cases, to use a special mounting tool to change elastic belts. The tool stretches the belt during installation and mounts the belt on the pulley with a certain initial tension. The belt then maintains its tension independently.
In addition to the CONTI® UNI-TOOL ELAST, ContiTech is now also offering all elastic Vribbed belts previously available only as part of a complete set with disposable tool (CONTI® ELAST TOOL KIT) for sale individually. "We are expanding the range to include products that meet the needs of new engines not equipped with belt tensioners in the accessory drive," explains Pirsch. Other elastic belts and complete kits for new vehicles are already in the works.
