- Rubber and plastics specialist looks to the future of humanity
- Global water, nutrition and energy supplies spark drive for innovation
- Presentation of the CONTI-V® Pioneer - Winner of the Association for Innovation in German Industry Future Award 2010
The needs of the next generation are the focus of ContiTech AG's appearance at this year's Hannover Messe. Under the theme "Meeting tomorrow's needs", the company, one of the world's leading specialists for rubber and plastics technology, will be demonstrating how materials, a spirit of development and the power of innovation can be used in Hall 5, Stand A16. The company wishes to provide answers to the urgent questions on the future direction of humanity as regards the issues of nutrition, clean water, the reliable transportation of energy and ecological product alternatives.
"At ContiTech, we're focused on the needs of humanity. We know that the Earth's resources are limited, and that our ecosystem is delicate. These are the most important reasons for product innovation and further development. We are motivated by the desire to fulfill the wishes of our customers and therefore also humankind's needs for quality of life and a reliable supply of resources in the world. We are also convinced that the only way for a company to successfully develop business is for it to consciously deal with the most urgent questions," states Heinz-Gerhard Wente, CEO of ContiTech AG, referring to the special responsibility and the economic potential that will develop over the next few decades.

An ending story - this phrase neatly summarizes our consumption of raw materials. This is an important topic which points in particular to the increasing scarcity of fossil fuels. Industries are beginning to consider the numerous innovations which can be made in the field of environmentallyfriendly and resourcesaving products and production processes. At the Hannover Messe, the ContiTech Power Transmission Group will present its central contribution to this question: the CONTI-V® Pioneer Vbelt, this year's winner of the Association for Innovation in German Industry Future Award. The focus will be on the wide variety of possible applications and the potential of the first wrapped Vbelt, which is made primarily from renewable raw materials, contains no carbon and meets the conductivity requirements of ISO 1813. "With this bright blue belt, we have set a milestone for environmentallyresponsible drives in industrial applications. More product lines, such as timing belts for the foodstuffs industry and consumer goods such as coffee machines and vacuum cleaners are also in progress. Companies which realize drive solutions with the CONTI-V® Pioneer will enhance the ecological value of their end devices and contribute to the protection and maintenance of the environment," says Konrad Müller, Business Unit Manager for the ContiTech Power Transmission Group, on the effective interplay between ecology and economy.
Reliable and sustainable supplies
Water, nutrition, energy - these are the factors by which the next generation will measure their quality of life in a world shaped by population increases and climate change. The reliable and environmentallyresponsible provision of people with essential supplies will play a central role, and places special demands on materials and technology. Günter Frölich, Business Unit Manager for ContiTech Fluid Technology, states "With our topic of reliable "supplies", we are demonstrating how ContiTech's hoses and hose lines contribute to the creation and guarantee of supplies for people. We are active in the food and beverage industry, in supplying people with clean water, in irrigation systems and agricultural machine and in the reliable pumping and transfer of raw materials. Here as well, our highquality products, such as the AQUAPAL® drinking water hose, LACTOPAL® and BLAUDIECK® foodstuff hoses and SAFLOTE doublewalled and marine hoses, prove their performance and potential for the future." For ContiTech, sustainability also means using environmentalfriendly technology, such as the new generation of SCR technology for industrial vehicles. With the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) process, emissions of environmentallydamaging nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxides can be reduced by up to 80 per cent, and soot particle emissions by up to 40 per cent. When used in agricultural machines, the system ensures that production of foodstuffs is more environmentallyresponsible and less damaging to the atmosphere.
Special light construction show: The lightweight advantage
Scarcity of resources, pollution to the environment and increasing energy prices: reducing fuel consumption and emissions is gaining importance in all fields of technology. One of the key technologies for reducing CO2 is lightweight construction. Whether with plastic motor bearings, lightweight hose line systems for flowing media or optimized surface materials for vehicle interiors - each individual component from ContiTech contributes to these goals. At the special light construction show in Hall 6, ContiTech will be presenting product developments which have made full use of the special materials expertise and development skills of the engineers who built them. This will be the first presentation of a plastic gearbox cross beam which is 50 per cent lighter than its aluminum counterpart. The component won first place in the Federation of Reinforced Plastics (AVK) Innovation Prize in the Industry category, and is fitted as standard in the new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo 550i.
