Formula Student Racing Cars - Continental's Link to the Talent Pool

Continental provides components from all divisions / Contact with future experts a key aspect of the involvement

(PresseBox) (Hannover, )
Continental has further intensified its activities as part of the "Formula Student Germany" design competition. This year, the international automotive supplier, tire manufacturer, and industrial partner will be supporting 42 teams worldwide - 23 from Germany and 19 international teams - providing them with highly specialized vehicle components and technical expertise. Five years ago, this number was around half this amount at 24 teams. Components supplied for the teams' racing cars include special tires, sensor clusters, gasoline pumps, brake-light switches, and safety-tank bladders.

"Innovations in the vehicles of today and tomorrow are increasingly being based on networked systems. In turn, these systems require engineers who can think and work in networks. Formula Student is a prime example of how, especially nowadays, advanced technology can only be developed in a network. More than ever, now is the time of networkers, of team players. Continental is looking to establish contact with exactly these people, because we want them in our team," says Helmut Matschi, member of the Continental Executive Board.

"Our involvement in the international 'Formula Student' design competition presents an important opportunity to meet our future experts and see them in action early on. This is why we not only accompany our student groups at the event at the Hockenheimring, but we also provide them with support for their design work throughout the year. This enables them to further develop as a team and work together to deliver outstanding performance. This teamwork is exactly what our customers value about Continental and what we look for in our future employees, since it means they will fit in perfectly at Continental," explains Konstantin Drozhdin, head of HR Marketing.

This year is the ninth time the Hockenheimring has hosted the final event of "Formula Student Germany." In this design competition, young engineers from international universities are given a year to independently draft, design, and build a prototype of a single-seater racing car. They are not limited to conventional internal-combustion engines - they can also compete with electric vehicles in the "Formula Student Electric" category. At the Hockenheimring event, the vehicles they have built are appraised by experts from the automotive industry according to three static categories and five dynamic disciplines. Over 10,000 visitors and 115 teams are expected.

The teams supported by Continental will also be invited to the traditional "After Race" event at the company's own Contidrom test track near Celle. Here, the young engineers will get the chance to put the racing cars through their paces in the numerous test facilities. The event also provides the opportunity for participants to share their experiences with the other teams and the engineers from Continental.
