LFoundry Announces European Foundry Capability for Automotive Industrial Grade Embedded SST SuperFlash® Technology

(PresseBox) (Landshut, )
LFoundry, the customer-specific manufacturer of choice for analog, mixed-signal and specialized technologies, announces an important addition to their advanced 0.15 µm process to further enable their customers to build complex SoC (system on chip) designs incorporating the renowned Silicon Storage Technology, Inc. (SST) SuperFlash® nonvolatile-memory (nvm) technology.

Based on a bit-cell structure licensed from SST, the nvm IP is supported by LFoundry customization, with characterization and test methodologies available to meet stringent reliability requirements.

SST SuperFlash technology is fully compatible with LFoundry’s modular mixed signal/analog and standard CMOS processes. With its unique architecture, SuperFlash technology is the most cost effective System-on-Chip (SoC) non-volatile memory choice for high density, low power, high temperature and high endurance applications.

SST SuperFlash technology is the most widely licensed Flash nvm technology available today, and is commonly used in microcontroller, automotive and smartcard devices. In 2009, over 4 Billion devices were manufactured worldwide using this technology. LFoundry is the first European Foundry source for this technology, providing a strategic sourcing alternative for European customers.

“This embedded Flash nvm technology, integrated into our 0.15 micron process, was set up in record breaking time and has already proven popular with a number of our customers. We expect to build on the alliance with SST during the coming months and plan to increase the number of technology nodes available as we see a high demand from European OEMs who wish to source their wafers in Europe,” said Michael Hoesl, Vice President Sales and Marketing of LFoundry.
