Essemtec introduces with Cobra a new standard for high-speed, high-flex electronics assembly

(PresseBox) (Landshut, )
Cobra is the first SMD pick-and-place system to combine the advantages of a highly flexible pick-and-place with the throughput of a multi-axes placer. The SMD pick-and-place often is considered the heart of the electronics production. Therefore, it must be reliable, high quality and allow flexible adaptation to the actual production load. The new Cobra pick-and-place from Essemtec Switzerland has been developed to meet these requirements better than any other machine on the market, and it comes in a modern design.

Cobra is equipped with the best that today's drive and material technologies have to offer. Linear motors, a high-speed bus and signal processing system, carbon fiber parts. and a mineral compound base are a selection of the many features that make Cobra fast, reliable and extremely precise. Cobra offers an 8-axes placement head in which each of the axes can place the full range of components that ranges from 01005 to 100 x 150 mm. Placement area is specified at 23.6 x 23.6" and placement speed is rated at 20,000 cph (IPC-9850). Cobra is not only fast, but flexible as well.

The feeder capacity of the Cobra is enormous. Although it is an in-line machine, it can hold up to 240 components simultaneously. Feeders are intelligent and can be exchanged while the machine is running. Therefore, changeover time between jobs is eliminated and the production can make maximum use of its production capacity. Another feature that supports Cobra’s fast and secure changeover is the new ePlace operation system.

ePlace inspires operators as well as process and production representatives. It is an intuitive, easy-to-use graphical interface, optimized for touch-screen input systems. It verifies all operator entries and if necessary it proposes better values or provides an online help. ePlace features a simplicity and security that has never before been seen on a pick-and-place machine.

The new Cobra offers a higher placement rate, higher feeder capacity, higher accuracy and a greater placement area than other pick-and-place machines. Feeders from other Essemtec pick-and-place systems such as the CSM, FLX and Paraquda series are compatible with the Cobra, making it easier to switch or upgrade.

Cobra is manufactured in Switzerland and tested with the strictest quality standards. It suits the highest quality and reliability requirements today and is one of the most accurate and modern machines in the world. Additionally, it is a sound investment because it will meet challenges in the electronics industry into the future.
