Organisatoren in Mekka vor schier unlösbare Aufgaben stellen. Viele Menschen kommen jedes Jahr während der Massenveranstaltung ums Leben, sie werden einfach zu Tode getrampelt oder zerquetscht.

Die Pilgerreise nach Mekka ist eine der fünf Säulen des Islams. Jeder erwachsene Muslim ist es dem Glauben nach schuldig, einmal in seinem Leben nach Mekka zu reisen und den Haddsch mitzumachen. Nach dieser Reise trägt dann der Muslim den ehrenvollen Titel „Haddschi“.
