Hannes Arch freute sich am Sonntag beim Red Bull Air Race in London über den dritten Rang. Ein spektakulärer Pyloncrash im Halbfinale gegen Nicolas Ivanoff kostete den Österreicher jedoch letztendlich den Finaleinzug.
Hannes Arch war in London bis zu jener Schrecksekunde der schnellste Air Racer der Welt. Doch der Pylonencrash im Halbfinale bescherte Arch zehn Strafsekunden. „Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war ich im Kurs bereits über zwei Sekunden vor Ivanoff, der nach meiner Zeitstrafe noch den Sprung ins Finale schaffte“, erklärte Arch. „Ich bin nicht total glücklich. Heute wäre einiges möglich gewesen. Andererseits bin ich aber erneut aufs Podest geflogen und jeder hat gesehen, dass ich trotz Strafsekunden in der Weltspitze mitfliegen kann. Da darf man sich freuen“, so der Red Bull Air Racer.
In der WM-Zwischenwertung des Red Bull Air Races 2008 liegt Hannes Arch gemeinsam mit Kirby Chambliss nur zwei Zähler hinter Paul Bonhomme. Arch und Chambliss haben beide 36 Punkte zu verzeichnen.
