Die Arbeitslage ist in diesem Land nicht die beste. Die Arbeitslosigkeit beläuft sich offiziell auf 15%, inoffiziellen Schätzungen zufolge liegt diese allerdings weitaus höher.
Der Iran verfügt über große Erdöl- und Erdgasquellen, dieser Bereich stellt auch den bedeutendsten Wirtschaftszweig des Landes dar.
Für europäische Verhältnisse ist der Iran äußerst rückständig. Die Infrastruktur lässt in weiten Teilen des Landes sehr zu wünschen übrig. Auch die Produktion von hochwertigen Gütern und Waren ist im Iran eher eine Seltenheit.
Aus diesen Gründen haben sich wohl auch die Exporte in den letzten Jahren stark erhöht. Im Vergleich zum Jahr 2002 wird nun nahezu die doppelte Menge an Waren in den Iran transferiert.
Zum Großteil kommen die exportierten Produkte aus der Europäischen Union, auch China, Russland, Indien und die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate spielen in Sachen Ausfuhrhandel eine wichtige Rolle.
Fraglich ist in dieser Angelegenheit die Rolle der USA: Als Irans Erzfeind kommen dennoch immer mehr amerikanische Waren in das islamische Land. Sehr zum Ärger der USA werden über Umwege Zwischenhändler in anderen Ländern gefunden, die schließlich die Waren in den Iran exportieren. Die Hauptexportgüter stellen Maschinen und Artikel aus der chemischen Herstellung dar.
