Derzeit prüft ein Gremium unter der Leitung des Kronprinzen von Dubai Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ob das Emirat in den Bewerbungsprozess für die Olympischen Spiele und die Paralympics 2020 eintreten soll.

Die Planungen gehen jedoch noch weiter: Dubai überlegt zudem, sich für die Expo, die große Weltausstellung, als Veranstalter zu bewerben.

Die Bewerbung Dubais soll das Land in wirtschaftlicher und sozialer Sicht pushen und weiter nach vorne bringen. Besonders die Bereiche Sport, Gesundheit und Ausbildung, Kultur und Technologie und Wissenschaft sollen durch die Bewerbungen verstärkt Unterstützung erfahren.
