„Draping Simulation – the key to low cost high performance net shape parts?“

Andreas Knote, Scientist at German Aerospace Center, Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems, will give a lecture on this topic at the 5th CFK-Valley Stade Convention, 07-08 June 2011 in Stade (Germany).

An abstract of Mr. Knote’s lecture: „To increase the competitiveness of composite parts, it is most important to lower the recurrent costs. The LCM technology offers a great potential over prepreg by much lower material costs with nearly equal mechanical properties. Yet the challenge is that highly complex 3D parts must exactly be draped from the flat fabrics to keep up their good performance and lower the amount of work. Draping simulation software can help to predict the flat pattern geometry and to check their producibility. To understand how the parameters of a draping simulation impact on the flat pattern precision and to find methodologies to achieve best net-shape accuracy, an extensive parameter study for different simulation software products has been performed. This lecture shows the result of the parameter study and the developed methodologies. The presentation with the title „Draping Simulation – the key to low cost high performance net shape parts?“ will be discussed on Tuesday, 07 June at 3:55 pm at the CFK-Valley Stade Convention (Stade, Germany).

CFRP: The material of the future has already become indispensable in many branches of industry. Because of its unique properties - high strength and stiffness at a low density and low weight -, CFRP is increasingly being used in aircraft, automobile and wind power plant construction as well as in the ship building industry.

The Convention focuses this year on the leading topic of “CFRP Automation – Simulation, Processes & Materials”. Particularly the topics of automated production and the cost-efficient development of CFRP structures will be the focus of the series of lectures held by representatives from renowned companies and institutes.

The CFK-Valley Stade Convention is considered a central meeting point and trade fair for decision-makers in the field of CFRP, with over 450 participants attending last year’s event. All leading experts, developers and users of carbon fiber composite materials will be expected here. Take advantage of the opportunity to make contacts and of the benefits the CFK-Valley Stade Convention 2011 will provide.

The whole program including detailed information on the accompanying exhibition and application forms are available for downloading at www.cfk-convention.com. Please register now! (Number of participants is limited, registration deadline 21 May 2011)
