certgate's renowned mobile encryption technology focuses on top security levels for data at rest and data in motion. Among its productive install base, it is the core element in the SiMKo2 project – also known as “Merkelphone” – where it is integrated by certgate's partner T-Systems International to protect mobile communication in the Federal Government and other areas of public administration. In a move to broaden the scope of the solution, certgate now decided to add a SIP and SRTP interoperable voice encryption module. For key exchange both PKI and ZRTP are applicable.
“With our newest development we offer encrypted data and voice transmission for standard smartphones on the highest possible security level”, explains certgate CEO Dr. Paschalis Papagrigoriou. “Central to our solution architecture is our ability to protect voice and data streams in utmost safety and then run these apps on an off-the-shelf device that we transform to resist any kind of tampering or spyware attack – certgate's SmartCard microSD is key to that.”
With the BSI evaluated “kernel protection“, certgate blocks all forms of malware and eavesdropping: the operating system is protected against manipulation, and not only harmful but all software installation on the smartphone can be banned in a reliable fashion.
The vulnerability of mobile devices made headlines after intruders were known to having easily accessed private conversations by using publicly available software to listen in on the cell phone’s microphone and speaker – circumventing any encryption activated on the phone.
The “hardened“ certgate Smartphone Protector was introduced to the market at CeBIT 2009. It is the first secure solution that protects smartphones and PDAs and their data from any kind of unauthorized access and manipulation by means of hardware-protected certificates and keys.
Smartphone Protector also provides crypto support for secure data transmission (VPN, SSL) and hardware-based e-mail encryption (S/MIME).
