In this new role, Dr. Leonard will apply his 15 years of product development experience in the life sciences to help accelerate the commercialization of febit's Geniom Platform and applications. Leonard will also head-up the febit Analytical Services Group in the U.S., which offers the HybSelect(TM) sequence capture service for DNA resequencing, as well as a wide range of microRNA (miRNA) and gene expression profiling services.
"We are pleased to have Jack join the team at febit, especially at a time when febit is expanding on U.S. business opportunities to provide technology and services to the life sciences community," said Cord F. Staehler, president and CEO of febit. "Jack's leadership will also support febit's plan to launch the HybSelect technology, which will provide the life sciences community with a highly developed DNA capture method, in early 2009."
"HybSelect has the potential to become a real blockbuster within genomics, and being part of the febit team is a privilege," said Leonard. "I look forward to applying my product development experience in genomics at febit to develop and establish the complete technology offering in the U.S. market, and to help extend the capabilities of febit's unique microfluidic microarray platform."
Leonard received his Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Connecticut, and completed his post-doctoral research at New England Biolabs. Prior to joining febit, he was Director of Genomics and Molecular Biology at Millipore; R&D Director at U.S. Genomics; and most recently, Director of Process Development at Codon Devices, where he led the team that integrated automation, microfluidics, and molecular biology methods to build a high production DNA fabrication platform.
