Carbonnix ist ein einzigartiges Projekt, das das ökologische Problem des Klimawandels mit einer marktwirtschaftlichen Strategie angeht. Dabei macht sich Schahram-Nia das EU-System des Handels mit Kohlendioxid-Emissionsrechten zunutze. Er kauft nämlich Emissionszertifikate auf und nimmt sie dadurch unwiderruflich vom Markt. Durch Anheizen der Nachfrage will er zudem den Preis für Verschmutzungsrechte ordentlich in die Höhe treiben.
Eine langfristige Reduktion um insgesamt eine Million Tonnen an Kohlendioxid-Emission ist sein hehres Ziel. Da Schahram-Nia und seine Freunde natürlich nicht allein so viele Verschmutzungsrechte kaufen können, sind sie auf die Unterstützung möglichst vieler Gleichgesinnter angewiesen. 44,99 Euro kostet ein Zertifikat für den Ausstoß von einer Tonne Kohlendioxid. Schahram-Nia: „Auf einfache, aber effektive Weise kann jeder persönliche Verantwortung dafür übernehmen, die globale Erwärmung zu stoppen.
