Canto Expands Professional Services Division, Acquires New Products

Increased demand for services-enhanced digital asset management prompts DAM veteran to increase its investment in Canto Professional Services.

BERLIN, Germany — 23 AUG 2011 — Canto, maker of Canto Cumulus digital asset management (DAM) software, has acquired Vitras GmbH of Linden, Germany. Vitras is known best throughout the Cumulus community as the brainpower behind Cumulus installations for Lufthansa and Neckermann, and as the developer of Cumulus mobile clients for Android, BlackBerry and iOS (iPhone/iPad). “Canto has acquired not just a company, but a group of some of the finest and most knowledgeable digital asset management professionals anywhere,” said Canto CEO Ulrich Knocke.

In response to an increasing demand for services-enhanced Cumulus systems, Canto Professional Services positions were added in San Francisco and Berlin, but acquisition was seen as the best way to staff the division with the experienced personnel it needed.

“Our team’s experience with workflow and process management enables us to provide immediate value to Canto, its customers and other Canto partners too,” explained Vitras co-counder, Andreas Mockenhaupt, who will now manage Canto Professional Services for the DACH region.

“Vitras and Canto have worked closely for so long that this really feels like a natural step in our evolution,” added Thomas Mockenhaupt, who co-founded and directed Vitras. “We look forward to offering all our customers the benefits of these two companies working now as one.”

In addition, Vitras developed a line of Cumulus add-on products that were part of the acquisition. Among them, the previously mentioned mobile clients, InDesign integration software for rapid catalog creation, and a user friendly video editing tool, designed specifically for video repurposing.

Vitras employees will remain at their current Linden offices, making Canto Professional Services more centrally accessible to customers throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH). No staff reductions at either company resulted from the acquisition.
