ersol wins IBC SOLAR as new large-volume solar cell customer

System provider IBC SOLAR AG concludes € 230 million contract with ersol / Cell deliveries for a period of 10 years / Focus on capturing the expanding Southern European target markets

(PresseBox) (Erfurt, )
From 2008, ersol Solar Energy AG (ersol) will deliver silicon solar cells to the system house IBC SOLAR AG, based in Bad Staffelstein, Germany. To this end, both companies have today signed a long-term supply agreement that will run until 2017. The total volume of the contract amounts to around € 230 million. ersol is scheduled to receive downpayments from IBC SOLAR AG, which will later be credited to the German PV provider when the solar cells are purchased, in the form of a purchase price reduction. Aside from the core German market, IBC SOLAR AG, one of the world's leading system integrators in the area of complete photovoltaic plants, will integrate the modules produced with ersol solar cells in projects in Southern Europe. ersol will support its new customer IBC SOLAR AG in serving its established markets with a special focus on simultaneously capturing the target markets of Italy, Spain, France, Greece and Portugal with top-quality German photovoltaic components.

"Aside from the future markets of the US and Asia, Southern Europe offers some of the greatest growth potential for the PV industry. Thanks to deliveries of our highly-efficient solar cells from the BluePower® and BlackPower® family to IBC, our products will now be used even more extensively in photovoltaic systems in the sunny countries of Southern Europe," explains ersol's CEO Dr. Claus Beneking upon signing the agreement.

IBC CEO Udo Möhrstedt is looking forward to the intensive collaboration with the ersol Group: "We have already enjoyed ongoing business contact with ersol for some years now. The agreement that has now been signed brings this relationship to a new level. In the future we will have access to considerable volumes of high-quality mono- and multicrystalline silicon solar cells from ersol, which we need to cover the strong overall growth in business and the expansive project business in Southern European countries. In these countries we have already managed numerous major solar projects as a system house and turnkey provider with 25 years' experience."

Bosch Solar Energy AG

ersol Solar Energy AG produces and markets high-quality silicon-based photovoltaic products. The Group comprises the divisions Silicon, Wafers, Solar Cells and Modules. With sales of € 128 million in financial year 2006, the Thuringia-based company is one of the leading companies in the solar industry. Listed since 30 September 2005 on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the young ersol share had already been added to the TecDAX on 19 December 2005. Currently the ersol Group has more than 500 employees.

The Company's main goal is to establish itself even more strongly as a manufacturer of high-quality silicon solar cells and to account for a disproportionate slice of the anticipated growth in the photovoltaic industry. To achieve this, ersol concentrates presently on technologically demanding stages of the value chain for photovoltaic plants, and in particular on the production of wafers and solar cells. The Company's supply of silicon raw material is based on several pillars. To the dominant part it is secured by long-term supply agreements with leading polysilicon producers. The company-internal recycling capacities within the Silicon division deliver an important additional contribution. The silicon is processed within the Wafers segment. The monocrystalline wafers manufactured there are preliminary products for the manufacturing of highly-efficient silicon solar cells within the Solar Cells segment. Since early 2006 the Company has been delivering a part of its solar cells for the production of solar modules to the joint venture Shanghai Electric Solar Energy Co. Ltd. (SESE) in which the ersol Group has a 35% holding. The sales of these and other photovoltaic modules are handled in part by the Modules business segment. In the future, this business segment is planned to also include the Company's own module production, scheduled for 2009. Furthermore, ersol develops the silicon saving thin-film technology within the Modules segment. Here, a production facility for silicon thin-film modules is under construction.
