Das Automobil-Jahr 2007 beginnt mit einer offenen Attraktion: BMW präsentiert zum Auftakt der North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) 2007 das neue BMW 3er Cabrio. Die Weltpremiere des Zweitürers, der erstmals über ein versenkbares Hardtop verfügt, gehört zu den Höhepunkten der international renommierten Ausstellung, die vom 7. bis zum 21. Januar 2007 in der US-amerikanischen Automobilmetropole stattfindet. Ein weiteres Messe-Glanzlicht setzt BMW mit dem neuen BMW X5. Das vollständig neu entwickelte Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) fasziniert mit überlegener Fahrdynamik in einem überaus luxuriösen Ambiente und ist zugleich der erste BMW, der Platz für bis zu sieben Passagiere bietet. Darüber hinaus vermittelt BMW dem Publikum in Detroit attraktive Visionen für die individuelle Mobilität von morgen. In diesem Kontext zeigt das Unternehmen auf der NAIAS 2007 den BMW Hydrogen 7, die weltweit erste mit Wasserstoff betriebene Luxuslimousine für den Alltagsverkehr. Mit dem neuen BMW 3er Cabrio wird während der ersten international bedeutenden Automobilausstellung des Jahres zugleich ein attraktiver Vorgeschmack auf den Sommer geboten. Die vierte Auflage des Cabrios auf Basis der BMW 3er Reihe kombiniert einzigartiges Open-air-Feeling mit außergewöhnlichen fahrdynamischen Eigenschaften. Dank einer flachen und horizontal ausgerichteten Brüstungslinie bietet auch das neue Modell das typische Offenfahrerlebnis eines BMW 3er Cabrios. An der Spitze der Modellpalette steht das neue BMW 335i Cabrio, das von einem 225 kW/306 PS starken Reihensechszylinder-Motor mit Twin Turbo-Aufladung und High Precision Injection angetrieben wird. In Europa wird das neue BMW 3er Cabrio seine Markteinführung am 24. März 2007 erleben - zeitgleich mit dem neuen BMW X5, der ebenfalls auf der NAIAS 2007 zu sehen ist. Die Neuauflage des weltweit erfolgreichsten Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) wird im amerikanischen BMW Werk Spartanburg produziert und auf dem für Fahrzeuge dieses Segments wichtigen US-Markt bereits mit größter Spannung erwartet. Mit überlegener Fahrdynamik, einem souveränen Erscheinungsbild und höchster Exklusivität setzt der neue BMW X5 den Erfolgskurs seines Vorgängers fort. Die Kraft seiner Motoren wird mithilfe des intelligenten Allradsystems BMW xDrive permanent und variabel zwischen Vorder- und Hinterachse verteilt. Zu den herausragenden Qualitäten des neuen BMW X5 gehören ferner das luxuriöse Ambiente und das gesteigerte Platzangebot im Innenraum, das erstmals die Integration einer dritten Sitzreihe ermöglicht. Als besonders spektakulären Beleg für Innovationskraft, herausragende Kompetenz auf dem Antriebssektor und zukunftsorientierte Entwicklungsarbeit zeigt BMW in Detroit die weltweit erste im Alltagsverkehr eingesetzte Wasserstoff-Luxuslimousine. Der BMW Hydrogen 7 macht deutlich, dass die auf Dauer unvermeidbare Abkehr von fossilen Kraftstoffen nicht zu einem Verzicht auf Freude am Fahren führen muss. Das in einer Kleinserie gefertigte Modell der BMW 7er Reihe wird von einem 6,0 Liter großen Zwölfzylinder-Motor angetrieben, der sowohl Wasserstoff als auch herkömmliches Benzin als Energieträger nutzen kann. Unabhängig davon, welcher Kraftstoff genutzt wird, mobilisiert der V12-Motor des BMW Hydrogen 7 eine Leistung von 191 kW/260 PS. Damit beschleunigt die Luxuslimousine in 9,5 Sekunden auf 100 km/h. Ihre Höchstgeschwindigkeit wird elektronisch auf 230 km/h limitiert. Mit der Präsentation des BMW 3er Cabrio, des BMW X5 und des BMW Hydrogen 7 gibt der deutsche Premiumhersteller in Detroit das Startsignal für ein ereignisreiches Jahr mit zahlreichen attraktiven Modellvorstellungen. Die Veranstalter der NAIAS 2007 blicken darüber hinaus auch zurück. Sie können auf eine mittlerweile 100-jährige Tradition der Ausstellung verweisen. Erstmals hatte die Detroit Auto Dealers Association im Jahre 1907 eine Fahrzeugmesse für das regionale Publikum ausgerichtet. Im Jubiläumsjahr erwarten die Organisatoren dagegen fast 100 Aussteller und rund 800 000 Besucher aus aller Welt.
