While the BMW Group was crowned king in two main awards, MINI was awarded 'Supermini of the Year', the three- and fivedoor BMW 1 Series models 'Lower Medium Car of the Year' and the BMW 3 Series Saloon and Touring ranges took the title of 'Medium Car of the Year'. BMW's classleading 5 Series Saloon and Touring was again jointly honoured with 'Executive Car of the Year', while the BMW X5 was named 'Large 4x4 of the Year'.
The BusinessCar Awards are the only honours in the market that are solely voted for by its readership giving them a particular credibility. The commendations recognise the classleading technologies encompassed under the EfficientDynamics umbrella that have been instrumental in making BMW and MINI the leaders in cutting CO2 emissions and improving fuel consumption, while still improving performance. The BMW Group products swept the board as all the marque's products feature the technologies as standard and for no added cost to the customer.
Paul Barker, Editor of BusinessCar, said: "The classleading combination of incredible efficiency, badge and product desirability and great driving cars has obviously struck a chord with the readers of BusinessCar - those people whose decision make a huge difference to the operation of companies and organisations across the country.
"The Manufacturer of the Year award reflects BMW's huge range of appealing products that the corporate sector relies on, while the Environmental Award is richly deserved for the spectacular achievement of EfficientDynamics, which saves both companies and corporate drivers a large amount of money without any compromise in driving performance or specification."
Sean Green, Sales Director of BMW UK, said: "The corporate customer is an extremely important one for BMW which is why it's fantastic to be honoured by BusinessCar in so many categories. But with 166 BMW and MINI models emitting 160gkm of CO2 or less it is not hard to see why our products are so popular. With vehicles such as the 109g/km BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon leading the way we fully expect to remain ahead of our premium rivals in 2010."
