2008 Qtel FIM Endurance Weltmeisterschaft

Das dritte Rennen dieser Saison für das Onroad-Team von BMW Motorrad Motorsport ist gleichzeitig die vierte Runde der Qtel FIM Endurance Weltmeisterschaft. Sie findet am kommenden Samstag, den 09. Augustin Oschersleben statt. Im vergangenen Jahr freute sich das Team über ein tolles Ergebnis. Am Ende standen ein fünfter und ein neunter Platz im Gesamtklassement in der Ergebnisliste und der erste und zweite Platz in der offenen Klasse. Dieses Jahr wird es allerdings noch schwerer, als schon im vergangenen, denn die Renndistanz wurde von 24 auf acht Stunden verkürzt.

Das ist zweifellos ein Vorteil für Vierzylinder-Maschinen, denn es ist nun eher ein "Sprint" als ein Langstreckenrennen. Trotzdem will sich das gesamte Team gut präsentieren und den Fans auf der Heimstrecke eine gute Show darbieten. Wie im vergangenen Jahr werden zwei Teams mit der BMW HP2 Sport an den Start gehen. Die Startnummer 17 pilotieren Thomas Hinterreiter, Richard Cooper und Jose-Luis Nion; Bike Nummer 71 fahren Stéphane Mertens, Rico Penzkofer and Grégory Fastré. Der 28-jährige Belgier Fastré ist dabei ein Neuling im Team, aber nicht im Endurance-Sport. Er gewann dieses Jahr bei den 24 Stunden von Barcelona in der Stocksport Klasse und fährt seit 2003 Endurance-Rennen.

"Das Rennen im letzten Jahr lief fantastisch für uns. Das war ein echter Höhepunkt, aber es wird schwer werden, das dieses Jahr zu wiederholen, weil das Rennen nur auf acht Stunden Renndistanz angesetzt ist und nicht auf 24. Unserer HP2 Sport liegt der kurvenreiche Kurs in Oschersleben gut, deshalb haben wir auch keinen so großen Nachteil wie auf anderen Strecken. Was uns an Leistung fehlt, können wir mit Handling und beim Bremsen gutmachen. Außerdem benötigen wir weniger Stopps als die Vierzylinder und können dadurch zwischen den Wechseln länger auf der Strecke bleiben.Wir waren etwas enttäuscht, als wir erfuhren, dass das Rennen in diesem Jahr nur acht Stunden dauert, weil das für die 1000er Vierzylinder sicher von Vorteil ist. Aber Endurance-Rennen sind unberechenbar, und wir wissen, dass unser Team bestens vorbereitet ins Rennen geht und sich der Herausforderung stellt. Über den Ausgang des Rennens will ich noch keine Prognose abgeben, aber ich wünsche mir natürlich, dass beide Bikes sicher ins Ziel kommen und am Ende in den Top Fünfzehn der Gesamtwertung landen."
