Mit der KELHEIM sind jetzt sieben Binnenschiffe für den BLG-Geschäftsbereich AUTO-MOBILE im Einsatz. Fünf Schiffe verkehren auf dem Rhein und zwei auf der Donau zwischen dem Autoterminal Kelheim und dem ungarischen Csepel bei Budapest. Die KELHEIM, ex MICHAELA, wurde bei der Scheepswerf Niessen im niederländischen Zwijndrecht umgebaut.
Aus dem Binnenfrachtschiff entstand ein 110 Meter langer Auto Carrier, der auf drei Decks 260 Pkw transportieren kann. Eine Besonderheit des Umbaus ist die Rampe am Bug des Schiffes. Damit ist die KELHEIM unabhängig von der Ausstattung der Häfen.
Schon vor ihrer Taufe am 10. November war die KELHEIM ausgelastet. Von der niederländischen Werft ging die erste Reise rheinaufwärts nach Köln, um Ford-Fahrzeuge zu laden. Mit denen ging es über den Main, den Rhein-Main-Donau-Kanal und die Donau nach Csepel. Dort wurden Suzuki geladen und nach Kelheim verschifft. Jetzt pendelt die KELHEIM regelmäßig zwischen Kelheim und Csepel.
