The importance of 3D technology in many areas of the economy, particularly for industrial applications to develop new products, but also to increase production and optimize sales in various industries such as the automotive industry, mechanical engineering and other export-heavy industries is indisputable. In Germany alone, around 2500, mostly small and medium enterprises of the 3D industry medians in 2010, achieved nearly 10 billion Euros in sales. Equally clear, however, are the positive market outlook, forecasting on the basis of trends in the main user industries such as vehicle manufacturing, the basic chemical industry, mechanical engineering and medical technology, a growth of approximately 15 percent per year for 3D technology and applications. This circumstance comes as advantage now for Bitmanagement as they are currently developing an Authoring tool that simplifies the production of professional 3D applications significantly.
For Peter Schickel, CEO of Bitmanagement, the project offers the opportunity to give the use of the 3D technology, an extra boost. As part of the ZIM project, which is funded by the BMWi, is to create a platform that enables virtually any 3D real-time rendering application.
The task for Bitmanagement primarily consists, on this future platform to map the entire workflow for a 3D application, starting with the required 3d creating tools (Market Leading authoring tools), accumulate (enrich) individual components and finish with output tools such as encryption or film support etc. (Embed).
The used authoring tools support the standard formats, such as X3D/VRML, Collada or CityGML. In addition, the output of completed applications is supported by all major operating systems including Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as Firefox and Google Chrome.
The different components which are integrated in the BS Content Studio are based on the 3D engine of Bitmanagement. This engine has been continuously developed over the last 10 years.
These components still have to be finalized:
- The animation designer. It is used to easily create 3D motion of objects in the scene by point and click methods.
- The UI designer for creating user interfaces and also simple buttons with drag and drop from a library of elements.
- The script editor can accomplish visual processing behavior of objects without specific programming experience of the user.
- And finally, a library of predefined objects that can be dragged and dropped into the scene and set to a desired location.
- In the field of embedded tools Bitmanagement aims to output the 3D data as much as possible in a compatible way to HTML5 as there are already available in some browsers display languages such as WebGL.
Also part of the task is the development of a cross compiler, which ensures a binary encoding of 3D content per click for many hardware components, such as Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and others.
A particular advantage sees Peter Schickel in the ability to find a suitable representation of functionality by search for alternatives, whenever the functions that are available on the platform for a particular device - for example, a tablet computer - are not enough. Up til now for each device with the same function still needs to be created its own version. As an additional support the developers will find a comprehensive SDK documentation.
