BIS Group supporting the Special Olympics at the 2012 National Games in Munich

(PresseBox) (Munich, )
Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services Group (BIS Group) will be supporting the Special Olympics at the 2012 National Games in Munich as a top sponsor. In addition to a financial contribution, it will be providing volunteers from its own staff, who will play an active role in the games and perform organisational tasks during the contests.

As Dr. Michael Herbermann, CEO of the BIS Group, explains: "We have decided to support the Games here in Munich as we will be celebrating our 125th anniversary next year. Munich has been the site of the Group's headquarters, which are located in the immediate vicinity of the Olympic Park, for more than 25 years. Over the past few years, our Company has grown very swiftly, gaining a very international outlook in the process. At the same time, the number of employees has risen to over 28,000. For this reason, it is important for us to repeatedly stress the significance which the sense of belonging together has for our Company."

In keeping with this, the mission statement is expressed very succinctly in the following words: ACT together - ACT creatively - ACT confidently - ACT smartly. In this way, the BIS Group seeks to highlight the things that really count in day-to-day activities, namely a system of values in which mutual respect and working together play a key role. Accordingly, the basic idea underlying the Special Olympics, which is reflected in the word "inclusion", is particularly close to management's heart. "Including people and not excluding them is the key requisite for a strong community," says Dr. Michael Herbermann.

100 young employees - apprentices, students and trainees - from the entire German-speaking region will be offered the opportunity of taking part in the volunteer program as representatives of the Company's entire staff. At this stage, the tasks which they will be asked to perform have not yet been finalised. They may accompany the athletes as squad leaders, present the medals or help with catering. Explains Dr. Michael Herbermann: "This will be a magnificent opportunity for the volunteers to contribute to the success of the Games. At the same time, it will strengthen the community spirit and thus also have a favourable effect on social cohesion within the Company."
