Scheidt & Bachmann ranks among the market leaders in systems for parking and leisure centres, signalling equipment, fare collection and petrol stations. For some years now the company based in Moenchengladbach has successfully applied card readers in the form of Smartcards both in Germany and abroad. In order to be well prepared for future market needs, Scheidt & Bachmann had been looking for an experienced partner for implementing a modelbased development process and appropriate development tools. "We opted for Berner & Matter Systemtechnik, who had convinced us by its expertise of many years in the field of modelbased development", states Roland Nennen, project manager at Scheidt & Bachmann.
For the first time ever Scheidt & Bachmann's fare collection systems division has applied modelbased methods on the basis of UML during the development of software components for Smartcards. The tool that was applied was Rhapsody in C by IBM. "We have benefited in every way from the cooperation with Berner & Mattner", says Roland Nennen. "The new process has increased both software quality through good testability and traceability and productivity in software development". In addition, the modular software architecture enables the flexible adjustment and extension of the card reader functionality for its application in various E-Ticketing solutions that are tailored to local markets.
