Danfoss VLT® AutomationDrive connects to POWERLINK

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
Danfoss, a company with 44 years experience with frequency inverters, has enhanced the current version of their VLT® AutomationDrive FC 300 series with a POWERLINK interface.

As a global supplier of components and solutions for motion control, heating and refrigeration, Danfoss emphasizes energy efficiency as one of its main goals. Thus, in 1968 the Danish group was the first industrial manufacturer of frequency converters for controlling three-phase asynchronous motors, and is still among the world’s leading suppliers of motion control electronics.

As well as intelligent plug-and-play technology, the current VLT® AutomationDrive FC 300 series covering motors from 0.25 to 1,400 kW features a modular design and in its more sophisticated version also integrates safe stop functionality suitable for EN ISO 13849-1 category 3 installations. These features provide substantial benefits in commissioning, operating and maintenance.

While USB and RS 485 connectivity are on-board, standard features, fieldbus interfaces are selectable options. The latest addition to the VLT® AutomationDrive FC 300 series’ connectivity options is POWERLINK. “Implementation of fast real-time network standards had been on our agenda since the rollout of our current generation of frequency converters in 2007”, says Serdar Gökbulut, Danfoss Drives Application Engineer for Central Europe. “Now that the FC 301 and FC 302 frequency converters are available with a POWERLINK interface, we can better fulfill the ever increasing demand for synchronization of large numbers of drives in real-time environments.”

About EPSG

The Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG) is an independent organization founded in 2003 by leading companies from the fields of motion control and automation technology. Its aims are the standardization and further development of the POWERLINK protocol first introduced by B&R in 2001. This high-performance real-time communication system is an advanced protocol based on the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard designed to ensure real-time data transfer in the microsecond range. The EPSG cooperates with leading standardization organizations such as CAN in Automation (CiA) and the IEC. Anton Meindl, business manager of Controls at B&R, is the organization's CEO.
