While the loss of the antique books remains permanent, the rescue of the unique library released unbelievable energies. More than 22,000 people as well as well-known companies and foundations donated funds for the rebuilding. Berlin architect Walther Grunwald, a specialist in the restoration of historic buildings, was successfully appointed to complete the project.
