And, as not everybody may put his hands on the cars of this prestigious luxury marque, the automobile museum assigned this task to an expert: Hubert Haberbusch from Strasbourg has been restoring cars for more than 40 years and has already been commissioned to carry out other projects relating to the Schlumpf Collection. When it comes to dealing with such ambitious projects, Haberbusch and the staff of his body repair shop have put their faith in Glasurit for many years now. Working in coordination with the Schlumpf Museum's curator, Richard Keller, Haberbusch is using the Classic Car Colors of Glasurit® to faithfully and lovingly reproduce the original colours with meticulous attention to detail. Such restoration projects usually take six to 18 months.
Mission: back to the past
To make it possible for the vintage cars to be actually restored in a manner true to the original exhibits, a Glasurit technician is meticulously examining the car bodies so as to track down the original colours. The colours of the Bugattis are being determined with the help of curator Keller and with the support of the Schlumpf Museum. This is an important operation that helps the team to track down the original colour formulas. Not until the mixing formula for the paint has been identified can the experts restore the Bugattis' original paintwork.
That is why the next few weeks will see Haberbusch, the Schlumpf Museum staff and Glasurit technician Daniel Jost coming together again to start the job of restoring the Bugattis, one item at a time.
