Due to the unprecedented increases in the cost of raw materials, energy and transportation, BASF is forced to raise its prices for propionic acid and mixtures based on propionic acid again after a first announcement in May 2008. The following price increase is effective immediately or as existing contracts permit:

It is also widely used in the production of vitamin E and in the fields of pharmaceuticals, crop protec-tion agents, solvents, food preservatives and plastics. Feed grain pres-ervation based on propionic acid offers clear economic and ecological benefits over other methods, as an eco-efficiency analysis by BASF demonstrates. It shows that using this acid to preserve feed grain is much more eco-efficient than feed grain preservation by means of drying or storage in air-tight silos. BASF markets propionic-acid-based pre-servatives under the trade names Lupro-Grain and Luprosil.
