Bibliotheque municipale de lyon selects autonomy to deliver innovation to online information services
France’s Second Largest Library To Use Pan-Enterprise Search Technology To Improve Information Access, Facilitate Knowledge Sharing And Assist Librarians
Autonomy's award-winning technology will allow Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon's users to find information faster and more conveniently than was previously possible. With Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer even the most unskilled searchers will be able to find the exact information they are looking for, saving considerable time. In addition, IDOL's ability to allow readers to find information and solve general research enquiries automatically will enable librarians to devote more time to answering individual and specialist requests.
Autonomy IDOL's advanced functionalities, such as Automatic Query Guidance (AQG), will direct users effortlessly to books and other media stored in the library's archives and proactively offer suggestions to related materials. The Parametric Indexing capabilities of IDOL will also guide users to refine their search queries, intelligently narrowing down results, to generate the most accurate retrieval lists. The results, ranked by relevancy, will be presented alongside a summary to enable users to locate the most important information even faster, whilst alerting them to documents that they might otherwise have overlooked.
"We pride ourselves in presenting such a wealth of information to our users and Autonomy will fundamentally change the way our visitors and employees are able to locate and interact with that information," said Patrick Bazin, general director at the Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon. "By creating a highly user-friendly system, we will offer visitors the most sophisticated, technologically advanced research experience in France."
Autonomy will also be used to power the Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon's knowledge forum; the 'Guichet du Savoir.' Through this forum, readers can share expertise and knowledge, as well as pose related questions to librarians. Members can locate messages by date and subject and subscribe to Autonomy's automatic alerting system. This system will inform them instantly when new related content is posted or a new subject is introduced. By actively encouraging interactions between readers and librarians, the "Guichet du Savoir" will help to significantly improve the exchange of information, creating an active online community for the Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon.
"Finding the right piece of information in the archives of any public library can be a frustrating and time-consuming process, especially so in a library as large as the Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon," commented Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "We are delighted that Autonomy's technology will help the library's users to find information faster and more effortlessly, whilst encouraging knowledge sharing and easing the workload of the librarians."
