orcharhino 7.7 delivers performance optimizations for Proxmox, extended Ubuntu ESM support, and patch management for image mode hosts

(PresseBox) (Munich, )
ATIX AG has released orcharhino 7.7, the latest version of its IT infrastructure automation solution. The new release brings performance improvements in the area of virtualization, extends security support for Ubuntu environments, and further expands the management of Image Mode Hosts. In addition, the provisioning of SLES 16 has been further simplified.

Proxmox performance boost and EFI disk support

With orcharhino 7.7, the Proxmox plugin receives comprehensive improvements. Administrators can now create EFI disks for KVM-UEFI guests and benefit from optimized handling of Proxmox HA resources. In addition, data retrieval from Proxmox clusters has been significantly accelerated. Internal tests show a reduction in loading times of up to 80%, depending on the size and performance of the environment. This noticeably improves the user experience, especially in larger virtualization environments.

Support for Ubuntu ESM Apps Errata

With version 7.7, orcharhino extends security coverage to Ubuntu ESM Apps repositories. This gives administrators transparency about security updates for applications maintained under the Ubuntu Expanded Security Maintenance (ESM) program.Use of these repositories requires a valid Ubuntu Pro subscription.

SLES 16 Provisioning: Extended Template Support with Agama

Building on the new Agama installer, template support for SLES 16 has been further expanded. The goal is simplified and automated provisioning, even in complex enterprise environments.New features include:
  • Static network configuration for environments without DHCP services
  • Automated setup of OpenVox/Puppet agents
  • Automated configuration of Salt minions
orcharhino 7.7 thus supports consistent and reproducible deployments even in restrictive or isolated networks.

Patch management for image mode hosts (bootc)

Image Mode Hosts are based on bootc (bootable containers), where the entire operating system is managed as an OCI container image. This immutable infrastructure approach ensures consistency, stability, and transactional updates with integrated rollback functionality.Orcharhino 7.7 extends support for bootc-based systems. In addition to host registration, remote execution jobs are now available to:
  • prepare for the switch to new container images (staging),
  • update existing images,
  • rollback to earlier images if necessary.
The images can be stored in any container registry, including the container registry integrated in orcharhino.A new feature is "Transient Package Installation". This allows packages to be temporarily installed or updated on a running system. These changes are deliberately non-persistent and are discarded the next time the system is restarted. This approach is particularly suitable for:
  • short-term bug fixes
  • Test scenarios
  • the installation of urgent errata
Permanent changes can then be integrated into new images and rolled out in a controlled manner during the next reboot. The new version of orcharhino is available now. Further information can be found at www.orcharhino.com.
