- arvato Systems offers a broad portfolio of modular smart metering services
- New year ushers in the first public utility customers
The IT service provider from the Bertelsmann Group was able to acquire several customers as the new year began with its new array of services. Among other activities, arvato Systems will provide complete smart me-tering services for the public utility companies in the German cities of Detmold, Fröndenberg, and Uelzen. According to Christoph Hüls, General Manager at Stadtwerke Detmold, “Two aspects were specifically important to us when choosing a service provider to work with for our smart metering services. First, a leading provider like arvato Systems is able to provide us with an important level of security for our customer data, with ISO-certified IT and basic security certification from the BSI. Secondly, we have already been working with the concept of smart metering for several years and have developed a certain level of expertise in that time. For this reason, we were looking for an innovative partner who could offer us a long-term collaboration with much potential, including for the further development of smart market solutions.” Mr. Hüls is not the only satisfied customer. Markus Schümann, General Manager at Stadtwerke Uelzen GmbH expresses that, “Stadtwerke Uelzen GmbH has been dealing with this topic since 2010. We are convinced that the meter operator’s role in the market and the infrastructure of smart meter systems are both well-suited to the development of new business models. With arvato Systems, we have found a partner with whom we can discuss visions on the same footing, and who offers not only the proper expertise but also the resources required to make these visions reality.”
The modular full-service solution from arvato Systems offers all services from a single source. It includes an ICT platform, which is operated from the company’s own ISO/IEC 27001-certified data center, as well as a comprehensive array of business process outsourcing services. The spectrum of services includes multi-branch measurement services and services for switching facilities using renewable energy sources, as well as future services such as BSI-compliant certification management (in the role of sub-certificate authority) and the administration of the smart meter gateway. Beyond these services, arvato Systems offers services for rolling out smart meters with end-to-end hardware and installation logistics, as well as supplementary call center services. “With these services, our solution covers the entire spectrum that public utility companies require in order to implement smart metering – a future-oriented approach that produces new business potential. We are therefore extremely pleased to welcome the first public utilities as customers at this initial phase of our new solution,” announces Thomas Nautsch, General Manager of arvato Systems perdata.
Smart metering and innovative business models based on this concept will grow in importance in the coming years as a part of future intelligent energy networks for energy suppliers and public utilities. For this reason, arvato Systems supports companies in the energy market as they begin to use this future-oriented technology. Matthias Moeller, Chairman of the Executive Board of arvato Systems perdata, confidently explains that, “We see ourselves as a strong partner in the area of digitalization within the energy supply market. As a result of many electricity producers and volatile production, the complexity of the energy market is increasing, while the need to further develop the operation of distribution networks intensifies. Market players thus require new, flexible technologies and services that will allow them to navigate through this growing complexity. And it is precisely in this way that our modular services for smart metering support our customers amidst a climate of constant change. We are able to assure them that we can guide them through the digital transformation of business models within the supplier market.”
