- arvato Systems and OCS Checkweighers enter into a strategic partnership
- Development and implementation of a comprehensive IT solution to meet both current and future challenges in the context of the global serialization requirements in the pharmaceuticals industry
The topic of ‘drug safety’ is increasingly becoming the focus of politics. An end-to-end verification process is set to solve the problem of an increasing number of counterfeit medications in the EU by 2018. The pharmaceuticals industry will then be under obligation to generate a unique serial number, print it on the boxes, and store it in accordance with the highest security requirements – a process that is only possible using IT.
OCS and arvato Systems pooled their competences and developed an interface that allows pharmaceutical manufacturers to meet the upcoming requirements of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive along the entire production and supply chain and consistently integrate them into their production processes. “With our in-house developed database ‘arvato CSDB’ as an interface between ERP software and production management systems, we have developed a key building block for pharmaceutical companies,” explains Peter Koop, Director Pharma Solutions at arvato Systems, delighted to have found in OCS an experienced partner in serialization and traceability. “Our product portfolios and areas of expertise complement each other perfectly,” continues Koop. “We are already able to offer our customers a fully consistent end-to-end solution that can be integrated into the production processes in the pharmaceuticals industry and that meets the requirements of the respective national verification procedures,” adds Volker Ditscher, Business Manager Track & Trace at OCS Checkweighers.
Successful presentation of the integrated system – Next joint event planned for October in Berlin
arvato Systems and OCS have already presented their IT solution and conducted live demonstrations before an audience of representatives from the pharmaceuticals industry as part of an informative event on the new EU Falsified Medicines Directive. The level of interest and popularity among industry representatives was so high that the two partners are planning a joint event entitled ‘Serialization in the Pharmaceuticals Industry: Best Practices for the Future’ on 21 October 2014 in Berlin, Germany.
