National Blueprint Solution successfully connected to EU Hub

Medicines Verification in Europe

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, )
• Arvato Systems has successfully connected the National Verification Systems to the EU Hub and passed all critical requirements
• Project on schedule: Austria is the first Arvato Systems Blueprint customer to go live with verification solution – other countries to follow.

The European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVO) has approved the Arvato Systems National Blueprint solution for the exchange of serialization data with the EU Hub. Of 28 EU member states, 17 rely on this proven IT system. This means that in terms of volume, the majority of European medication packaging is now covered by the Gütersloh-based IT company.

Successful connection to the EU Hub – the European Union official data storage and distribution center – means that countries such as Germany and Austria who have Blueprint systems, now have the ability to exchange information about medicines and process verification requests from pharmacies and wholesalers. With this, they fulfil all requirements of the mandatory EU Falsified Medicines Directive.

The live connection has been approved by the EMVO: all critical requirements, including important multi-market functionality, are implemented. The Arvato Systems verification solution goes live with all critical requirements met. More functionality than planned for in the original implementation plan has also been developed, and these new features have successfully passed User Acceptance Tests.

Austria is the first country to connect its National Verification System, developed by Arvato Systems to the EU Hub. Andreas Achrainer, CEO of Austrian National Verification System AMVS, says: “We are delighted that we have been able to reach this milestone for Austrians who use the system. They are now able to upload their data and test out the complete verification system in live operations. We are extremely confident that the EU Falsified Medicines Directive will be implemented as required in February 2019. We are happy to have a capable, reliable partner such as Arvato Systems at our side. “

The EU Falsified Medicines directive 2011/62/EU rules that from February 9, 2019 prescription medicines can only enter the sales chain if the packaging has an individual serial number. The serial number is used to verify identity and authenticity of medicines, so preventing fake medications from entering the legal supply chain. Austrian pharmaceutical companies can now begin to label their packaging with serial numbers and enter this data into the national verification system.

Arvato Systems offers the healthcare sector a comprehensive range of solution platforms for serialization, supporting individual manufacturers as well as national verification systems. To achieve this, the Gütersloh company relies on its own team of serialization experts who have already implemented multiple projects in an international environment. The IT specialist has developed its own solutions covering the entire process chain, from pharmaceutical manufacturers through to in-store verification for pharmacies.
