Arvato Systems and Metrilus Create Efficiency Gains Along the Supply Chain

Partnership between Arvato Systems and Metrilus

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, )
  • MetriXFreight from Metrilus measures the volume of pallets, packages, and other packaging units
  • Arvato Systems leverages the data, processing it in platbricks, its specially developed cloud-based platform for the digitalization of logistics processes, as well as in SAP logistics systems
  • Logistical processes such as those in freight space planning, transportation, and warehousing can be efficiently planned
(Arvato Systems) Gütersloh, Germany – Arvato Systems will be working with Metrilus, a computer vision company. As part of the cooperation, Arvato Systems will use the goods and freight measurement data captured by MetriXFreight from Metrilus in its logistics IT solutions. It will enable processes such as freight space planning, transportation, and warehousing to be optimized in a very simple and efficient way, resulting in significant cost savings at various points along the supply chain.

The MetriXFreight systems use state-of-the-art 3D camera technologies and software algorithms to measure the volume of goods, pallets, packages, and other packaging units, taking less than 200 milliseconds for the process. The MetriXFreight product family currently includes a tabletop model as a solution for measuring volumes and weights of smaller goods and cartons, in addition to a model that is suspended four meters above a floor scale for pallet and package measurement. The devices are very simple to operate and feature augmented reality displays.

Arvato Systems leverages the logistics data on goods and freight captured by the systems and processes it further in platbricks, its specially developed cloud-based platform for the digitalization of logistics processes. The data can also be evaluated and used in SAP logistics systems such as SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) and SAP TM (Transportation Management). The captured data is used to determine the required freight space in outbound processes and to find a suitable carrier, for example. In the process, the order-related data is compared with stored freight rates in order to make a suitable selection. In addition, the data can be used to calculate the required storage space, determine the need for packaging materials, and plan required labor resources, among other things, even before the goods arrive.

“We have found a perfect complement to platbricks, our cloud-based logistics software, with the 3D camera-based volume measurement devices from Metrilus,” explains Bernd Jaschinski-Schürmann, Head of Digital Supply Chain Management at Arvato Systems. “The dimensions of products are quickly and securely captured and can then be used for predetermining packaging units or for storage optimization in an automated warehouse.”

“We view Arvato Systems as a strong partner, with excellent knowledge of supply chain digitalization and the associated challenges. Significant efficiency gains can be achieved for customers in a short time with the tremendous process expertise from Arvato Systems in combination with our MetriXFreight technology,” says Björn Kayser, Chief Sales Officer & Partner Management at Metrilus.
