The film plot centers around Machete's mission to help the President of the United States, played by Carlos Estevez - better known as the actor Charlie Sheen - take down an international crime ring. To help get the job done, Machete and his counter-surveillance team rely on systems powered by AMD technology, which are featured in the film.
In addition to Trejo and Estevez, the movie also stars some of Hollywood's biggest actors including Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., and marks the cinematic debut of performer Lady Gaga.
"We believe this film is going to be one of the fall's biggest hits, and AMD is proud to be part of the magic," said Colette LaForce, senior vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, AMD. "It's exciting to see what AMD technology can do in the hands of one of the most innovative filmmakers of our time, and the fact that our brand helps Machete achieve his mission in the story itself underscores our commitment to delivering technology that helps push the limits of what is possible in our world."
Quick Draw Studio's visual effects division, Troublemaker Digital, uses AMD Opteron(TM) processors and AMD FirePro(TM) graphics accelerators on many of its productions, including "Machete Kills." Rodriguez is well known as an early pioneer in the use of computing technology to produce larger-than-life graphics and high fidelity imagery in major motion pictures.
"Editing, content creation and special effects were all made easier with AMD technology in our studios," said Robert Rodriguez of Quick Draw Studios. "We just had to put AMD's brand in the film as a special shoutout to a great technology partner, and we had a lot of fun bringing this sequel to life. 'Machete Kills' is action-packed and very visually rich, and we pushed our creative process even further on this release."
Rodriguez has used AMD technology to create a number of his previous films, including "Machete," "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams," "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over," and "Sin City" to name a few.
A special showing of "Machete Kills" will take place at the ninth annual Fantastic Fest Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 in Austin, Texas. Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world. A trailer of the movie can be found on the official "Machete Kills" website.
