Officially launched in January 2006, the Ethernet Alliance was created to serve the Ethernet industry and promote the ongoing incubation, development, interoperability testing and support of technologies based or dependent on Ethernet standards. The organization recognizes the vast impact of Ethernet on the communications industry and therefore seeks to touch a broad spectrum of the market, including consumer electronics, the network core and all points in between. The Ethernet Alliance does this with interoperability demonstrations, presentations at industry shows and events, collateral, articles and many other educational activities.
"2010 will be a banner year for Ethernet," commented Theodoras. "The Ethernet protocol continues to grow and spread into many new market areas and has become the protocol of choice in the carrier space as well. However, carrier needs are not the same as those of the enterprise. Continuing ADVA Optical Networking's dominance in Ethernet access technologies, we have joined the Ethernet Alliance to promote the community and present a cohesive industry voice. I am very honored to have been selected as a subcommittee chair and will work to ensure that the momentum of this key technology is forward."
Over the last several years, Ethernet has evolved from a protocol for corporate LAN (Local Area Networking) connectivity to one that now drives advanced global communications and Wide Area Networks (WANs). It has become the de facto standard for both nextgeneration networking and computing. Benefits of Ethernet include flexibility, simplicity and cost efficiencies due to economies of scale.
With its FSP 150 portfolio of Ethernet access products and having been named the #1 global provider of Ethernet access devices by Infonetics Research three years in a row, ADVA Optical Networking is committed to the advancement of Ethernet technology and products. The company provides devices for Ethernet demarcation, extension and aggregation to support the delivery of intelligent, differentiated and profitable Ethernet services.
