(pressebox) (Berlin / Detmold / Herisau, 2016-09-22) HUBER+SUHNER and Weidmüller have announced a strategic alliance in the rail technology market during the Berlin trade show Innotrans 2016. A framework agreement was signed by representatives of the Boards of both companies on Wednesday of this week.

The aim of the cooperation is to exploit the potential synergies created by the complementary solutions portfolios of the two companies. Weidmüller supplies the technical know-how for connectors, whilst HUBER+SUHNER offers a comprehensive range of cables.

Current project plans envisage cabling solutions for rail vehicles, cable harnesses (cables and connectors) and complete cable systems. This will see the two companies able to supply rail industry customers with complete, 100 percent tested solutions for the connection and transmission of power, signals and data.

"Modern applications are entering the market, so that rail operators are able to meet the requirements for operational efficiency and safety, as well as passenger comfort," said Alun Thomas, HUBER+SUHNER’s Market Unit Manager for Railways. "We have found in Weidmüller the right partner with whom to develop global innovative solutions for increasingly complex systems."

"The trend towards digitization will also drive dynamism and innovation in the rail technology sector," said Dirk van Vinckenroye, Head of the industry division Industry Automation & Solutions. "With our strategic partner HUBER+SUHNER we want to drive the process forward together."
