39 Jahre arbeiten wir durchschnittlich in Deutschland, bis wir in Rente gehen. In Island sind in der Regel fast 45 Arbeitsjahre nötig, um eine Rente vom Staat zu bekommen. Der EU-Durchschnitt lag im Jahr 2020 bei 35,7 Jahren. Manche europäische Staaten setzen den Fokus auf eine hohe gesetzliche Rente mit entsprechend hohen Beitragszahlungen. Andere fördern die private Vorsorge und bieten eine verhältnismäßig geringe gesetzliche Rente.
