Die Bestrebung der Telekom, sich bis 2016 ihres Analog-/ISDN-Netzes zu entledigen, ist in vollem Gange. Für Telefonie und Internet-Anbindungen lässt die Umstellung auf IP-basierte Technik keine größeren Probleme erwarten. Anders sieht es allerdings für die zahlreichen, z.B. in der Fernwirk- und Alarmtechnik eingesetzten Standard Analog-/ISDN-Modems aus. Diese werden nach der Umstellung nicht mehr funktionieren, so dass Anwender hier unter Zugzwang stehen.

Mit dem AT-Modem-Emulator von Wiesemann & Theis können die bisher eingesetzten Standard-Modems 1:1 ersetzt und die bewährte serielle Fernwirktechnik somit unverändert weiter betrieben werden. Statt über das Telefonnetz stellen AT-Modem-Emulatoren die Verbindung untereinander über das IP-Netz her. In zentral
