Zwick's makroXtens® is a high-accuracy contact extensometer for stand-alone solutions and fully automatic testing systems, having been specially developed for tensile, compression, flexure and cyclic tests on metals, plastics, composites and other materials.

The new version satisfies the requirements of Accuracy Class 0.5 to ISO 9513, as verified from 20 µm in the calibration report.

The maximum error in differential movement measurement between two measuring points in a range from 20 µm to 200 µm is only ± 1 µm, completely fulfilling the additional requirements of ISO 527-1 (2011) and delivering the accuracy required for operations such as measuring Young's modulus on plastics. Longitudinal strain on specimens is recorded in the elastic and plastic deformation ranges throughout the tensile test up to specimen break - including under high tensile forces and with brittle materials.

The new makroXtens® is available in P and HP versions, with three different sensor-arm lengths (300, 450 and 600 mm). The HP version allows increased resolution levels plus approval for closed-loop strain-rate control to ISO 6892-1 (2009) Method A(1) and ASTM E 8-09 (Method B), while the intelligent tracking device provides even greater measuring accuracy, particularly in the initial measuring range, combined with optimized handling (self-inhibiting system).
