ZMDI Is Extending its DC/DC Regulator Solutions With the Launch of the ZSPM4023, a Wide Input Voltage, Energy-Efficient IC Providing Up to 12A of Output Current in a Small, Integrated Package

(PresseBox) (Dresden, Germany, )
ZMD AG (ZMDI), a Dresden-based semiconductor company that specializes in enabling energy-efficient solutions, today announces the product release of an energy-efficient DC/DC regulator for non-isolated step-down applications. The ZSPM4023 is a single-phase buck regulator with integrated driver and power FETs, capable of leveraging a wide input voltage range and supporting up to 12A of output current. As a global supplier of analog and mixed-signal solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications, ZMDI has developed the ZSPM4023 to expand its family of analog power solutions targeting simple, high performance single-phase applications including server, telecommunications, storage and consumer devices.

The new ZSPM4023 is an extension to the previously announced ZSPM4022; the ZSPM4023 allows higher input voltage support while enabling the same high performance, highly efficient DC/DC designs as is required by today's applications. The ZSPM4023 provides high-efficiency DC/DC conversion for all load ranges, with the capability to automatically run in continuous or discontinuous modes based on load requirements. High efficiency at low load is accomplished by supporting discontinuous mode operation in which the regulator shuts down all non-essential circuits and minimizes the supply current draw. During discontinuous mode, the total power supply current is only 450uA. In addition, the highly integrated design of the regulator enables improved design-cycles, bill-of-materials cost reduction and footprint savings.

"The ZSPM4023 exemplifies ZMDI's focus on improved energy-efficiency. The ZSPM4023 and the previously announced ZSPM4022 provide simple, easy-to-design, highly integrated DC/DC conversion with improved efficiency, enabling customers a quick time-to-market solution for load requirements up to 12A," said Adrian Ward, Architect of Analog Power at ZMDI. "The DC/DC family of the ZSPM4023 and ZSPM4022 focuses on offering capabilities for higher load levels and supporting a wide input voltage range, thus allowing customers flexibility in their system designs while maintaining a small footprint."

Benefits of the ZSPM4023:

-- High efficiency at all output load conditions
-- Wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, enabling multiple application scenarios
-- High level of integration, improving design cycle time, BOM cost and footprint
-- Low overall current consumption
-- High input/output voltage ratio allows conversion from high VIN to low VOUT (e.g., VIN=28V, VOUT=0.8V)
-- Wide operating temperature range: -40 degrees C to 125 degrees C

Availability and Pricing

The ZSPM4023 is in full production. It is available in three variants based upon output load rating: ZSPM4023-12 (12A), ZSPM4023-09 (9A), and ZSPM4023-06 (6A). Parts and ZSPM4023 Evaluation Kit are available from ZMDI.

For 1,000 pieces, the ZSPM4023-12 is priced at EUR 1,46 or USD 2.05 per unit.
