Kottingbrunn, (PresseBox) - WITTMANN BATTENFELD, based in Kottingbrunn / Austria, has had many years of experience in medical product manufacturing and clean-room applications. The new all-electric machines of the EcoPower and MicroPower series have also been designed with a special focus on medical technology.
At the MEDTEC in Stuttgart, WITTMANN BATTENFELD will present its potential in the area of medical engineering to interested trade visitors at booth No.8141.

The EcoPower and MicroPower series belong to the PowerSeries, the machine manufacturer's new product generation, in which WITTMANN BATTENFELD has successfully and optimally pooled its many years of know-how and innovative strength for maximum customer benefit.

PowerSeries - clean, precise, highly efficient

The PowerSeries features high precision, compact design, maximum userfriendliness, a modular concept and high energy-efficiency. The common concept for all machines is a complete solution according to the principle of "everything from a single source". Numerous peripheral appliances and robots are compactly integrated and operated via just one control system. Another common feature of all machines is the UNILOG B6 control system, which offers a uniform control and operation concept for easy handling of the injection molding machines, including all integrated peripheral equipment. This is an important feature, especially for clean room applications. The control system, running under Windows XP®, greatly facilitates the integration of the machines in PDA systems, but above all in Internet-based service support systems. This also enables operation of the machines from outside without entering the clean room.

With the EcoPower and MicroPower series, ultra-modern machines and equipment have become available for medical technology. These all-electric machines from the PowerSeries offer the ultimate in cleanness, precision and cost-efficiency and are thus ideally suited for medical technology and clean room applications. The machines' high reliability, speed and energy-efficiency are additional advantages of these series.

At the MEDTEC in Stuttgart, a medical clamp with a part weight of 0.003 g is manufactured from POM supplied by Ticona within a cycle time of 4 seconds on a MicroPower 15/7.5 with a 4-cavity mold from Microsystems UK. The parts are removed by a W8VS2 WITTMANN robot with a handling weight of 2 kg and passed on to a camera integrated in the production cell and in the machine's control system for quality inspection. The parts are subsequently separated according to cavities and stacked in a stacking module.

The MicroPower - available with clamping forces of 5 and 15 t - is an all-electric injection molding machine for high-precision and micro injection molding, which attracts attention from the medical industry by its extraordinary cost-efficiency, process reliability and speed.

In this new machine generation, the innovative two-step injection unit, consisting of a screw and a plunger, with a shot volume ranging from 0.05 to 3 cm³, is of special interest. The melt injected through this injection aggregate is thermally homogeneous, resulting in absolutely top-quality parts, absolutely stable production processes and short cycle times. Thanks to the short cycle times as well as low material and energy consumption, the MicroPower is also absolutely cost-efficient. In this way, cost cuts of 30 to 50 % compared to standard machines can be achieved.

Consequently, the machine pays itself off in a minimum of time. Another vital factor contributing to the MicroPower's cost-efficiency is the fact that the entire range of peripheral equipment is perfectly geared to the production of nano and micro parts.

The modular machine system consists of a basic platform that can be extended according to customers' needs with a rotary disk, parts removal handling, integrated quality monitoring via image processing and a clean-room module, extendable up to a complete production cell. The clean room-compatible design and a clean room module which enable class 6 clean room environment according to ISO 14644-1 are optimal for medical applications. In this application, the parts are injected, tested and deposited in the clean room.
