WABCO's TailGUARD Technology, a Rear Blind Spot Detection System for Trailers, Named a Finalist for 2011 Automotive Innovation Award by SMMT
WABCO TailGUARD technology detects small, large, moving and static objects in the blind spot behind the trailer, thus significantly increasing vehicle safety while driving in reverse. Integrated with WABCO's latest braking technology, TailGUARD automatically stops the trailer at a safe distance, which is programmable between 30 and 100 centimeters. TailGUARD is compatible with all truck models and enables working environments toward zero accidents. It also provides rapid return on investment by avoiding repair costs and reducing unscheduled vehicle downtime.
TailGUARD is part of WABCO's Intelligent Trailer Program, which offers an innovative range of modular functions that increase vehicle safety and driver effectiveness as well as improve vehicle efficiency. Trailer builders and fleet operators choose those functions most relevant for their logistics environment.
"We are proud to achieve this level of industry recognition for our TailGUARD technology, one of the most advanced safety systems for driving trailers in reverse, which is when one third of all trailer accidents occur," said Nick Rens, WABCO Vice President, Trailer Systems and Aftermarket. "The judges of the SMMT award look for technologies that demonstrate the value of investing in product innovation as well as their potential to transform our industry, and TailGUARD exemplifies WABCO's passion for innovation as we strive with customers in every region of the world toward zero accidents for trailers."
