WABCO Exhibits Industry-Leading Technologies for North American Trucking Market
Breakthrough Vehicle Safety and Efficiency Solutions at 2014 Mid-America Trucking Show
- WABCO's OnGuard™, North America's leading solution in Collision Mitigation Systems (CMS), lowers fatalities by an estimated 24 percent
- WABCO's Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS), the global industry's best-selling solution to increase vehicle efficiency, delivers fuel savings up to 5 percent
- WABCO's Electronic Stability Control ESCsmart™, mitigating annually half a million critical driving situations worldwide, delivers an estimated 53 percent fewer rollovers
WABCO (NYSE: WBC), a leading global supplier of technologies to improve the safety and efficiency of commercial vehicles, will exhibit its industry-leading technologies for the North American market at the 2014 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) from March 27-29, 2014, in Louisville, Kentucky (USA).
WABCO will feature breakthrough safety technologies benefiting commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators alike, including WABCO's market-leading OnGuard collision mitigation systems (CMS) as well as WABCO's electronic stability control ESCsmart, the North American market's most advanced stability control system.
A study published in 2012 by a renowned, U.S.-based transportation research institution estimated that the broad adoption of WABCO's OnGuard collision mitigation systems could reduce the number of fatalities by 24 percent. Another independent 2013 research study concluded that WABCO's electronic stability control ESCsmart could prevent about 53 percent of rollovers attributable to excessive speed in curves.
WABCO will also feature breakthrough technologies in vehicle efficiency such as WABCO's world-leading electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS). WABCO's ECAS is the award-winning enabler technology that supports fleets in North America to transition from trucks with a 6x4 axle configuration to a 6x2 configuration, which has three axles but only one is powered. Thereby, ECAS helps to reduce vehicle weight resulting in increased payload and additional revenue. WABCO's ECAS significantly improves the traction performance of 6x2 trucks on low friction surfaces through its intelligent load transfer functionality. An independent report by the North American Council for Freight Efficiency recently confirmed that a 6x2 truck configuration increases fuel economy by up to 5 percent.
"At MATS 2014, WABCO will demonstrate its breakthrough technologies in vehicle safety and efficiency that have further extended WABCO's market position in North America," said Nik Varty, WABCO President, Americas. "For example, WABCO's OnGuard safety system, the North American market's first collision mitigation system with active braking, has been adopted by four major brands of original equipment manufacturers, resulting in a market-leading position of more than 50,000 systems sold, and OnGuard protecting customers collectively for more than six billion miles travelled."
WABCO operates in North America through two wholly owned subsidiaries, WABCO North America and WABCO Reman Solutions; WABCO Compressor Manufacturing, its joint venture with Cummins Engine Company; and its Meritor WABCO joint venture.
