Volkswagen zeigt in einer Weltpremiere auf der North American International Auto Show die Studie einer neuen SUV-Generation: den CrossBlue. Der größte Automobilhersteller Europas hat das neue Allroundtalent speziell für die USA und Kanada konzipiert. Im Fall einer Serienfertigung würde der CrossBlue das Modellspektrum von Volkswagen um ein siebensitziges Midsize-SUV der 5,0-Meter-Klasse bereichern.

Dank eines der innovativsten Plug-In-Hybridsysteme (TDI Clean Diesel + zwei E-Motoren + Doppelkupplungsgetriebe + elektrische Kardanwelle) prognostiziert Volkswagen für das allradgetriebene SUV einen Verbrauch von 89 MPGe (für Hybrid-Fahrzeuge adaptierter EPA-Standard der USA bei voller Ausnutzung der Batterieladung, Highway- und City-Zyklus kombiniert).
