VNG Polska and HANDEN are merged

Leipzig / Warsaw, (PresseBox) - VNG – Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft (VNG AG) has merged its two Polish companies VNG Polska and HANDEN with effect from January 4, 2016. The merged company is to trade as HANDEN and will continue to manage natural gas trading throughout Poland from Warsaw for the Leipzig gas supplier. VNG had established VNG Polska in 2009 as a management holding for its participations in HANDEN, G.EN and the heat contracting company NYSAGAZ, which has since been sold.

“We are slimming down our structures by eliminating VNG Polska as an intermediate holding company for VNG AG. This will shorten our decision-making paths, simplify a large number of processes and make us more efficient and future-oriented,” explains Falko Thormeier, Managing Director of HANDEN. The second Managing Director will continue to be Ireneusz Sawicki, who is responsible for finance, energy trading and regulatory matters.

HANDEN, established in 2000, was the first private company to import natural gas to Poland in 2007 and initially supplied gas to regional distributors and industrial customers. Since then, the company has become a key supplier of natural gas as an alternative to the state-owned PGNiG (Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo S.A.). In 2014, gas sendout reached 1.67 TWh. “We have established HANDEN as a successful, customer-oriented brand in Poland. We want to return this trust to our customers. The new structures, which are clear and efficient, will be a key step towards remaining attractive and competitive together with G.EN. Gaz Energia,” Thormeier emphasized.

HANDEN Sp. z o.o., a wholly owned subsidiary of VNG, is a Polish natural gas trading company with registered offices in Warsaw. The company was established in 2000 and traded under the name of G.EN. Trading Sp. z o.o. until April 2008. In 2007, HANDEN was the first independent supplier to import natural gas to Poland and deliver it to customers. As a result of the merger of VNG Polska and HANDEN, the “new” HANDEN has also acquired the 100 percent stake in G.EN. Gaz Energia. With about 31,000 customers and annual gas sales of 1,04 TWh, this Polish distribution company is one of the largest gas suppliers in Poland. It sells natural gas in the territory of 53 communities in the Western and Northern voivodeships (provinces) of  Lower Silesia, Greater Poland, West Pomerania and Pomerania. The distribution system has a total length of about 2,700 km.
