Vishay's New Ultra-High-Precision, High-Resolution Z-Foil Audio Resistor Features a Special Design Without Molding or Encapsulation to Reduce Signal Distortion and Increase Clarity in Signal Processing

Device Offers TCR of ±0.2ppm/°C, Tolerance to ±0.01%, and Current Noise <-40dB

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced a new ultra-high-precision Z-Foil audio resistor that features a special design for increased clarity. The device provides a low typical TCR of ±0.2ppm/°C from -55°C to +125°C, +25°C ref., an excellent PCR (" R due to self heating") of 5ppm at rated power, an absolute tolerance of 0.01%, and current noise of <-40dB.

The Vishay audio resistor (VAR), built on Vishay's Bulk Metal® Z-foil technology, provides a combination of low noise and low inductance/capacitance, making it unrivalled for applications requiring distortion-free properties. Its special "naked Z-foil resistor" design, without molding or encapsulation, adds an additional dimension for reducing signal distortion and increasing clarity in signal processing.

The new device is optimized for differential amplifiers, power supplies, and as feedback, loading, and gain resistors in high-precision amplifiers, high-end speaker systems and audio circuits, transducers, and high-fidelity audio amplifiers.

The VAR has a load-life stability of ±0.01% for 2000 hours at +70°C; a low voltage coefficient of <0.1PPM per volt; a thermal EMF of <0.05 V/°C, and a resistance range of 10 to 100k , with any value at any tolerance available through calibration. It offers a fast rise time of 1.0ns without ringing and features a non-inductive (<0.08 H), non-hot-spot design. The resistor offers the utmost in ESD immunity, withstanding electrostatic discharges exceeding 25kV, for increased reliability. The resistor is available with lead (Pb)-free or tin/lead alloy terminal finishes.

Samples and production quantities of the new VAR are available now, with lead times of 72 hours for samples, and three weeks for standard orders.
