Vishay Releases New Series of Ultrabright White SMD LEDs with 0603 Footprint, the Industrys Smallest for This Device Type

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today released a new series of ultrabright white SMD LEDs that utilize high-efficiency InGaN technology to provide exceptional brightness in a compact 0603 footprint.
With dimensions of 1.6 mm x 0.8 mm x 0.6 mm, the new VLMW1100 series of white LEDs has been designed to enable smaller products with higher performance, greater flexibility in design, and enhanced applications.
The new VLMW1100 LEDs provide cost-effective illumination for applications including backlighting in automotive dashboards, switches, and keypads; indicators and backlighting in telecommunications systems, audio and video equipment, office equipment, and indoor and outdoor message boards; and flat backlighting for LCDs, switches, and symbols in general use.
The devices offer an 80° angle of half-intensity, an extremely high luminous intensity ranging from 140 mcd to 280 mcd, and a typical color temperature of 5500 K. The LEDs feature an ESD-withstand voltage up to 1 kV, in accordance with JESD22-A114-B.
The EIA- and ICE-standard 0603 SMD package for the VLMW1100 series is leadframe-based for high reliability in harsh environments. The package is filled with a mixture of epoxy and yellow converter. The yellow converter converts the blue emission partially to yellow, which mixes with the remaining blue to produce white.
Preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 2a standards, the 0603 SMD package is lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant. CECC compatibility with infrared, vapor phase, and wave solder processes simplifies handling and automatic assembly.
Supplied on 8mm tape, samples and production quantities of the VLMW1100 ultrabright SMD LEDs are available now, with lead times of five weeks for larger orders.
