IFAV feststellt, ist das Thema 'Energieverbrauch' von Haushaltsgeräten immer noch nicht ausreichend bei der Produktberatung im Einzelhandel vertreten. Verkauft wird in erster Linie über den Preis. Die Rechnung für einen zu hohen Energieverbrauch des Kühlschrankes oder eines DVD-Recorders wird dem Kunden dann in den nächsten Jahren während des Gebrauchs nachgereicht. Dieses kann zum Beispiel bei kleineren Geräten der Unterhaltungselektronik Stromkosten in den kommenden 5 Jahren von 27 oder 87 Euro verursachen. Bei größeren Haushaltsgeräten wie Kühl-/Gefrierkombinationen kann die Stromkostendifferenz noch wesentlich höher ausfallen.
