European power transmission industry is still in a booming athmosphere – The Board was re-elected

Frankfurt, (PresseBox) - The European industry of power transmission elements met from 14. to 15. June in Bergamo for their annual meeting as guests of the Italian Association ASSIOT. The year 2006 was again one of the successful years in European history of producing gears, gearboxes and transmission elements.

The production in Europe rose about 11 billion Euro in 2006. For 2007 the experts forecasted a plus of 8% for the European power transmission industry
(without bearing industry) and also expected a plus for 2008.

The driving forces especially in the market for gearboxes will be the wind energy industry and the fact that still the key players are European companies. This industry is the biggest supplier industry for the global engineering market and one of the biggest European employers.
Also during the meeting the new statutes of EUROTRANS were approved, which are the basis of this committee for the future.

The president of EUROTRANS, Dr. Andrea Scanavini, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer of mG miniGears (Italy), pointed out "Our target should be the increase of the visibility of EUROTRANS and to be prepared for the risk and opportunities of the globalisation. The new working groups should be a basis for this work, especially the working group Product Piracy.”

The main problems are still the European demographic problems, which will end in a lack of engineers and specialised workers, the increasing energy and material costs and a lack of production capacity.

After nearly 10 years, the Secretary General, Klaus Wüstenberg, VDMA, will be retired in November 2007. The Board decided to confirm the General Secretariat in Germany, VDMA and elected Dirk Decker, VDMA, as new Secretary General.

In accordance to the new statutes Dr. Scanavini was elected again as president for the next year and also Mr. Roobaert ,Hansen Transmission, was confirmed as Vice President.

EUROTRANS is the networking platform for the European power transmission industry (www.euro-trans.org).
