u-blox wireless modules to integrate Intrinsyc RapidRILTM technology for Android
License shortens time-to-market for customers designing with u-blox' LISA 3G module
"RapidRIL will enable us to take advantage of the growing opportunities with customers developing Android based devices," said Thomas Nigg, VP Product Marketing at u blox. "Our cooperation will drastically reduce the design cycle for customers using our LISA 3G modems for Android-based products such as smart phones, tablets, eBooks and appliances."
The Radio Interface Layer (RIL) is a layer in an operating system which provides an interface between telephony applications and the modem in devices that needs wireless connectivity such as tablets and smart phones.
"Intrinsyc is pleased to help enable u-blox wireless modules to support Android-based designs," said Andrew Hurdle, Regional Manager, EMEA, Intrinsyc. "Our RapidRIL(TM) technology will provide high performance and reliable connectivity for end users."
Intrinsyc's RapidRIL supports solutions covering both UMTS and CDMA technologies. These solutions give OEMs and ODMs a head start in producing world class connected devices. The key benefits of RapidRIL are:
- RapidRIL multi-channel architecture allows devices to have concurrent data connections that in turn improve overall responsiveness to the Web and other cloud services.
- Extend RIL commands to enable features such as location-based services, advanced power management, or advanced telephony features such as push-to-talk;
- Shorten time-to-market with the flexible architecture and optimized code for 2.5/3G devices with multiple data channels; and,
- Leverage investment time and budget with RapidRIL product solutions for multiple operating systems.
Intrinsyc and u-blox will be showcasing a LISA 3G modem utilizing RapidRIL on a Freescale tablet reference design at the upcoming Freescale Technology Forum, in San Antonio, Texas, June 20-23.
