ThermoMed introduces active temperature control in Denmark

Co-operation with Danish pharma specialist 3D Logistik / Active temperature control leads to clearly increased flexibility and safety in international transport / Nation-wide pick-up and delivery services

Weinheim, (PresseBox) - trans-o-flex ThermoMed, the specialist for the transportation of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, expands its international network for actively temperature controlled shipments to include Denmark. To this end, the company signed a co-operation agreement with 3D Logistik, a Danish express delivery service provider also focussing on serving the pharmaceutical sector. As regards the operational aspects, the co-operation will start in December. Following this decision, trans-o-flex ThermoMed now operates a comprehensive network for actively temperature-controlled transportation in the temperature range of between 2 and 8 °C in France, Germany, the Benelux countries and Denmark. "Thus, we have established the largest European network for the comprehensive fine distribution of pharmaceutical products with active temperature control", says Carsten Glos, Managing Director of trans-o-flex ThermoMed.

"Expanding our network to Denmark is not only important because it enables us to serve more customers", explains Glos. "Active temperature control also offers our customers clearly more flexibility and safety, especially where it concerns long international routes." In contrast to the passive cooling system, active temperature control no longer requires special packaging for temperature-sensitive goods. This not only reduces the expenditure in the dispatch as well as the collection of reusable and disposal of non-returnable packaging but also makes it possible to achieve a clear reduction in the chargeable weight because the required thermal packaging and cooling units are heavy, weighing much more than the product to be cooled. Another benefit that can be seen in international transport with its long routes is the abolition of the restrictions made on passive temperature control. Given the limited compliance with the temperature ranges typical for passive temperature control systems using cooling units, the transport time windows are quite small, leading to considerable problems, especially during weekend transportation or where it concerns wrong addresses or return transports. Active temperature control, however, means that, from the pick-up and handling to the delivery, the goods are stored in correspondingly temperature-controlled vehicles and warehouses. Compliance with the temperature ranges is permanently monitored and completely documented. Where the temperature falls below or exceeds the range, exactly defined emergency systems and processes serve to prevent losses in the products' quality to the largest extent possible.

Founded in 1999, 3D Logistik, from its locations in Kolding, Glostrup and Aalborg, offers both night express services and 24-hour deliveries for the entire Danish continent as well as a wide range of individual warehouse logistic services for pharmaceutical products. 3D Logistik's distribution business has a fleet of 70 vehicles and achieved sales amounting to some € 11 million. The owner-managed company's sole Managing Partner is Steen Møller.
